Shares of Reliance Infrastructure (down 12.57 %), Bharat Heavy Electricals (down 3.40 %), Adani PowerNSE -3.73 percent (down 3.14 %) and NHPC (down 2.62 %) were the top losers in the index.
ABB India (down 1.72 %), Siemens (down 1.43 %), GMR Infrastructure (down 1.16 %) and Thermax (down 0.97 %) too were trading with losses.
The S&P BSE Power index was trading 0.86 % down at 1922.03 around 11:06 am.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index was down 84.60 pnts at 11,427.80 while the BSE Sensex was down 314.56 pnts at 38,508.01.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 11 stocks were trading in the green, while the other 39 were in the red.
